Last Sunday was Rally Day and that means I traded in the fans in the sanctuary for something else …
I actually got this idea from a church member last year. She was visiting her daughter in New Hampshire and they worshiped with the local UCC church. The church had bookmarks in all of their hymnals. The bookmarks had pertinent information for first-time visitors and ways to learn more about the church. Sally brought one home and passed it on to me. I thought it was a great idea!
We printed them in the office. I created a 2.125″ x 11″ blank documents in publisher and then added in our church drawing, text and UCC symbol. Obviously I can’t put everything about the church on there, but I made sure information about our church school and youth group were highlighted so new families will see that those program are vibrant. I printed them on cardstock (4 to a page) with “cut mark” at the top and our office admin cut them to size.
The bottom of the text encourages people to take the bookmark home. I find myself replacing them often, so I think people are!
One day I would like to find a way to print them on something a bit more durable (or have them laminated?) – but for now, this is a quick and easy way to show hospitality to people who stop by worship for visit. 🙂
What do y’all do to welcome visitors in worship?
