I don’t even know where to begin
This weekend 34 youth from the Rehoboth Congregational Church joined over 70 other youth from around the area for the area annual Homeless Awareness Weekend. The slept out in cardboard boxes for two nights, worshiped together, listened to speakers, worked in soup kitchens, raised money and panhandled in the streets. It was an incredible year!
I will share more numbers and photos from the weekend later, but for now I can barely contain my excitement about something else!
On Saturday morning I woke up and headed to the field so that I could take a picture of all of the kids and chaperones who were participating.
And there was my ride!
One of my church members arranged for my to go up in the helicopter of a friend of his so that I could take aerial photographs of the field!
It was unbelievable – my first time in a helicopter!
And we were off!
John was funny – right before we took off he said, “Okay, one question – where is Mason Field?” HA – he clearly doesn’t know me. I don’t do well with directions on the ground!
I told him to get me in the general direction of I-95 and Route 152 and we could look for the blue tarps on the boxes from there …
It worked! There they are!
Before we left one of the leaders texted me and said, “Wait until you see what we’re doing!” I had no clue until we started to fly closer …
They formed a house!
Unbelievable.
Isn’t that incredible!
We took a couple of passes around, I opened the window to wave and then we flew off!
John asked me if I wanted to fly over Providence before we went back. Did I?!?!
It was a really clear morning – you can actually see the Boston skyline in this picture!
Providence!
And all of a sudden we were over it! John showed me the flight navigator thing-a-ma-jig (technical term) and we were free to fly anywhere outside of a certain radius of the airport.
The Capitol!
As we turned away from Providence, John asked if there was anywhere else I wanted to go before we headed back. I couldn’t help but ask … could we fly over the church?
He said yes … but I had to get us there … WITHOUT my GPS. HA! I’m surprised we’re not still up there flying.
I spy a steeple!
There is is! My beautiful church.
Our current Facebook cover photo.
And just like that, we headed back, landed and I went home to change into my collar for a memorial service. Back to reality. 🙂
AMAZING morning. The whole thing doesn’t seem real! Thank you Ray and John for making this happen! I will NEVER forget it!
