So my year started off with four funerals and an ear infection – what?? Who has time for that? My plan was to post these photos on Epiphany, but … yeah. The week kind of got away from me!
So last Sunday I preached the Epiphany texts. I go back and forth about whether or not to preach them the Sunday before, but I had a sermon in mind so I went with it and built an altar to match!
I went with a gold and white color scheme. I love how the white fabric acts as such a vast contrast to the dark wood of the altar. It really makes the gold elements pop more than if they had just been on the wood.
To add some depth to the altar, I raised the candles and the cross and built the altar on the different levels. The nice thing about the shiny fabric is that it is very forgiving and just kind of falls imperfeclty around the different levels!
We have flowers on our altar every week and they really added a nice touch to this!
I haven’t put together an altar based on the Gospel in awhile and this was really fun. I plugged my iPad into the sound system in the sanctuary, cranked some tunes and just let myself escape while I designed. It was so much fun! I am preaching Jesus’ baptism on Sunday and trying to decide if I should try something different from what I’ve done in the past or just go with it … thoughts?
