This book is unbelievable!
Creating Holy Spaces: Worship Visuals For The Revised Common Lectionary (here on amazon)
By Delia Halverson and Karen Appleby
I’ve said this before on here, but I am really interested in learning more about altar and worship design. Worship has to be more than just sitting and following along with a bulletin. Worship leaders have to create a space for people to have a meaningful experience or encounter with God.
This book is neat because it confirms a lot of ideas that I have had floating around in my head. It talks about tapping into multiple senses through worship and offering more than just words for people to connect to.
It helps with big theme ideas …
AND week-to-week ideas as well. It actually follows the lectionary! SO cool. You can look up the exact week you are in the cycle and it gives you options for design with each passage.
It also gives you some ideas if you want to start collecting some supplies.
And some forms if you want a way of keeping track of them, too!
There are some great appendixes in the back – including pages of scriptural references if you aren’t a lectionary preacher but do want to get into more design.
There is another book about design coming out in April (I think). Does anybody know of anything else?
